b) Voltage measurement ‘V’
Proceed as follows to measure direct ‘V ’ (DC) voltages:
- Switch the DMM on and select the ‘V ’ measuring function. The
display indicates ‘mV ’. The measuring instrument automatically
switches to a higher measurement range according to the measured
voltage value.
- Insert the red lead into the V socket (10) and the black lead into the
COM socket (9).
- Connect the two probe tips to the object to be measured (battery,
circuit, etc.) in parallel. Connect the red probe tip to the positive ter-
minal and the black probe tip to the negative terminal.
- The polarity of the measurement is indicated on the display.
- After taking a measurement, remove the leads from the measured
object and switch the DMM off.
A minus symbol indicates that the measured DC voltage is negative (or that the measuring leads are con-
nected in the wrong polarity).
The ‘V DC’ voltage range has an input resistance of >10 MΩ. If open measuring inputs are used, an unde-
fined measured value may be displayed due to the high input resistance. This, however, has no effect on
the measurement result.
Proceed as follows to measure mixed ‘V ’ (AC+ DC) voltages:
- Switch the DMM on and select the ‘V AC+DC’ measuring function The display indicates ‘mV ’.
- Press ‘MODE’ to switch to combined AC+DC mode.
- The display switches to combined AC+DC display mode. The main display indicates the
mixed voltage value, the individual DC and AC voltage components are displayed on the
small sub-displays.
- Insert the red lead into the V socket (10) and the black lead into the COM socket (9).
- Connect the two probe tips to the object to be measured (battery, circuit, etc.) in parallel.
Connect the red probe tip to the positive terminal and the black probe tip to the negative
terminal.
- The combined measured value appears on the main display.
- Press the ‘MODE’ button to switch to pure DC voltage display.
- After taking a measurement, remove the leads from the measured object and switch the DMM off.
The respective polarity of the DC voltage measured value is displayed on the lower DC display only. No mV
measurement range exists in combined measuring mode.
