Introduction
Octane rating
Octane rating indicates a gasoline's ability to resist engine-
damaging “knock” caused by pre-ignition. Using gasoline that does
not meet minimum octane requirements can affect engine
performance, while the use of poor quality gasoline or gasoline with
octane levels below 87 can also cause engine damage. If Regular
gasoline is recommended for your engine, you may be able to
enhance engine performance by using Premium gasoline.
The recommended gasoline octane rating for your engine is listed
on a label inside of the fuel filler flap. This rating may be specified
according to AKI (CLC) or RON (ROZ) standards.
Regardless of whether unleaded Regular or Premium grade
gasoline is specified for your vehicle, Volkswagen recommends
using TOP TIER Detergent Gasoline with a minimum octane rating
of 87 AKI (91 RON) for Regular gasoline, and 91 AKI (95 RON) for
