III. ADVANCED OPERATION
This section will cover advanced features of the DVR. This instruction manual will
assume that the section on basic operation has been read and understood. The
advanced operation will require occasional references to some of the features explained
in the Advanced Settings section on page 48. This section will address the lock function,
backup function, the motion and alarm recording and its combinations, Pan/Tilt/Zoom
camera control and event search and time search.
1. LOCK
The buttons on the DVR can be locked by
pressing the lock button and then entering the
administrator’s password. Once locked, the lock
LED will be lit and all buttons except the lock
button will be disabled. Pressing the buttons on
the DVR or the remote controller will have no
effect. To unlock the buttons, press the lock
button once more, then enter the administrator’s
password to clear the button lock status. The
lock LED will be turned off.
2. BACKUP
When a CD-RW/DVD-RW or an external hard
drive is connected through the USB port, the
backup icon will pop up as shown to the left.
There are two methods of backing up the content
of the internal hard drive onto the external
devices. The first method is manual and the
second method is automatic. Please refer to the
following sections for detailed description.
1. CD-RW/DVD-RW
The DVR recognizes most major brands of CD-RW and DVD-RW drives. The following
is the list of the compatible external optical drives manufacturers:
Sony
Panasonic
Plextor
TDK
Iomega
LaCie
Backup process to the CD-RW and the DVD-RW only works on manual method due to
the limited capacity of the medium. On average, a blank CD will contain up to 700MB of
