TEMPERATURE READINGS
Temperature readings vary from person to person. Although there is no one “normal” temperature reading, a
temperature, taken orally, ranging between 97°F-99°F is considered normal. A rectal temperature is generally 1°
higher and an underarm temperature will be 1° lower.
The best method to determine your child’s normal temperature is to use the thermometer when they are feeling
well. Record the temperature twice a day (early morning and late afternoon). Take the average of the two
temperatures. This is considered your child’s normal body temperature. Any variation from it may indicate some
sort of illness and you should consult your pediatrician.
BEFORE USE
Your VICKS
®
Junior Oral Digital Thermometer is designed specifically for oral use. It is recommended that for 15
minutes prior to use, your child should avoid eating or drinking any liquids, physical activity, or taking showers or
baths.
OPERATING YOUR VICKS
®
JUNIOR ORAL
DIGITAL THERMOMETER
Press the On/Off button to activate the thermometer. A beep will sound and the
display will come on. The display will first show the LCD display test (Fig. 1) and then
show the last reading. After 5 seconds, the display will be in the ready mode (Fig. 2).
FOR ORAL USE
1. Cover the thermometer’s tip with a probe cover.
2. Place the probe tip well under the tongue. (Fig. 3) Place sensor tip in areas marked
with “
✔
”. The mouth should remain closed during the measurement to ensure an
accurate reading.
3. When the peak temperature is reached (usually 20 seconds), 10 beep signals will
sound and the “°F” sign will stop flashing. The temperature is now ready to read and
will not change when the thermometer is removed.
4. Turn the thermometer off by pressing the On/Off button. If you forget to turn it off, the
thermometer will automatically turn off after approximately 9 minutes.
5. Dispose of used probe cover and wash the thermometer as recommended."
FOR UNDERARM (AXILLARY) USE
1. Wipe the underarm with a towel.
2. Place the tip under the arm so the sensor is touching the skin and position the
arm next to the body. With a young child, it is sometimes helpful to hug the
child to keep their arm next to their body. This helps hold the thermometer
steady and ensures that the room air does not affect the reading.
3. When the peak temperature is reached (usually 60 seconds), 10 beep signals
will sound and the “°F” sign will stop flashing. The temperature is now ready to
read and will not change when the thermometer is removed.
4. Turn the thermometer off by pressing the On/Off button. If you forget to turn it off, the thermometer will
automatically turn off after approximately 9 minutes.
5. Wash the thermometer as recommended.
TO RECALL THE LAST TEMPERATURE
Press and hold on/off button for 1.5 seconds and the last reading will show in the display with the letter “M” shown
under the degree sign for approximately 3 seconds. The power will automatically turn off after the button is released.
