Local Software Download
Local software download should only be used for diagnosis, modem
repair, or when the remote download is unavailable, and should be
performed by qualified personnel.
The following items are required to perform a local software download:
1. The VMBR-1520 target modem;
2. A support laptop of PC with an Ethernet connection and can
perform as a File Transfer Protocol (FTP) server;
3. The new software image.
Preparation
To prepare the modem for local software download, perform the
following steps:
1. Place the new software image into the PC FTP server’s upload
directory. Activate the FTP server on the PC;
2. Connect the modem per Paragraph 3.2.2.
3. In addition to Step (1), connect a null-modem cable (Table 1-1 and
Paragraph 2.3.3.3) from the PC’s serial port to J5 on the modem.
4. Turn the modem on, and let it run for about a minute.
5. From the PC, ping the modem according to the procedure in Section
3.3.2.1. When ping echo appears, proceed to the next step.
6. While still at the command prompt, type
ipconfig
to locate the IP
address of the PC.
