Removal and Replacement
For removal and replacement of the VMBR-1520, refer to Paragraphs
6.7.1 and 6.7.2. Refer to manufacturer’s documentation for removal
and replacement of other equipment.
6.7.1 Removing the Chassis
To remove a VMBR-1520, follow these steps.
1.
Set the power switch at the front panel to OFF. Observe the power
indicator on the front panel goes off.
2.
Remove the power cable, then other cables to the modem.
3.
Remove the modem from any mounting hardware, and prepare for
shipment. Refer to Section 6.
6.7.2 Replacing the Chassis
To reinstall the VMBR-1520, complete the installation procedures in
Paragraph 2.3.
6.7.3 Removing and Replacing Cables and Connectors
Observe the following general procedures when removing or replacing
cables and connectors.
1.
Never pull equipment by its cord. Never suspend equipment from its
cord.
2.
When disconnecting a power cord, always disconnect at the power
source first.
3.
Never attempt to mate connectors before first aligning their center
lines. It is often possible to mate threads without aligning the pins.
This will result in bent pins, destroyed dielectric properties, and
stripped threads.
4.
Depending on the connector type, it is often possible to “feel”
whether pins are aligned. Gently mate the coupling until it
bottoms. During the process, if the nut (or screw) is difficult to turn,
it may be due to pin misalignment, cross-threaded coupling nut, or
actual damage to the connector.
5.
Stop and determine the reason for connector misalignment. Failure
to do so may result in damage to the connector or possibly the
attached component.
6.
Never hold a male coupling nut stationary while screwing the female
counterpart into it. This will ultimately destroy both connectors.
Excess wear to the connector or its plating may result.
7.
Do not allow connectors or cables to twist while tightening
connector nuts. This will cause torque to be transferred to the
cable. Damage to the connector and cable may result.
8.
Never use pliers to tighten any connector. Over tightening can
cause connector or other assembly damage. Ensure that
connectors are hand tight and fit firmly to prevent arching.
9.
Ensure proper cable strain relief to prevent damage to equipment
connectors.
Warning.
Verify all
connectors are connected
tightly. Loose connections
can cause faulty contacts
that may induce arcing and
cause personal injury or
damage to unit.
Warning.
Voltages in
excess of 30 VAC or 42.5
VDC are potentially
hazardous. Careless use of
metal tools or conductive
fluids may cause equipment
damage, electric shock or
burns. Live circuits must not
be broken by separating
mating connectors. This
may cause arcing,
ionization and burning.
