5.4 

Network Management System (NMS) 

5.4.1 Overview 

This server (a blade in the ABS) provides the basic operator interface to 
the ArcLight network using the NMS Client. NMS Client is a Java 

application that interfaces with the NMS Server Java application, 
typically on the same machine. The NMS Server is the heart of the NMS 

software. The NMS Server provides the NMS Client with a mechanism 
to interface with the PostgreSQL ORDBMS and the Management 
Download Server (MDLS). The NMS Server monitors and controls the 

Hub components and the VMTs. The PostgreSQL database contains all 
configuration information about the Hub components as well as the 
VMTs in the network. The MDLS provides software and configuration 

downloads to the VMT population. The NMS software is pre-installed 
and tested at the factory and it is field-upgradeable. 

The NMS runs on a blade server installed within the ArcLight Blade 

System.
