Chapter 5 - Maintenance

Symptom

Things to Check

Cannot change axis modes

System is in Local mode of operation; check the front-panel
display for "LCL" indication.

Angle display readouts always read
"000.000"

Check the resolver/synchro cable connected to the
resolver/digital board.

Repair or replace resolver/digital board.

Repair or replace resolver reference board if present. (Not needed
for synchro systems.)

Axis does not move when in
position or rate modes and
command does not equal current
position

Check the brake release switch for that axis. When the switch is
ON, the power amplifier enable signal is disabled by the
controller.

Check all pedestal or positioner components including power
amplifiers, motors, brakes, range cables, etc.

Repair or replace servo board.

Axis does not follow commands or
oscillates when commanded to a
new position

Check with ViaSat Satellite Networks for possible compensation
parameter changes. Ensure test input on softkey menu is
disabled.

Cannot communicate with the ORI
using the host RS-232 interface

Check all cables between the host and the ORI. Ensure internal
jumpers are set correctly.

Repair or replace ORI board.

Cannot communicate with the ORI
using the host IEEE-488 interface

Check all cables between the host and the ORI. Ensure internal
jumpers are set correctly.

Replace ORI board.

Message at bottom of screen reads
"Error has occurred: xxxx", where
xxxx is a 4-character hex value

Report error to ViaSat Satellite Networks.

Travel bars on front-panel display
do not work

Check the position limit parameters;
MENUS/SETUP/LIMITS/TRAVL(+ or -).

Axis operates properly in Position
mode but does not move or moves
slowly in Rate mode

Check the rate limit parameter
(MENUS/SETUP/LIMITES/RATE).

Check connections to the front-panel joystick.

Replace the front-panel joystick.

Unit reports that Autotrack board is
not present in an Autotrack system,
there is no signal strength or error
indication on the front panel, or the
system performs properly in all
modes except Autotrack mode.

Replace Autotrack board.
