Chapter 5 - Maintenance
(c) CR6 and CR9 indicate serial interface activity with an Autotrack
PWB (if one is present in the unit). CR9 is toggled on every
transmission to the Autotrack PWB, CR6 is toggled when a reply
is received. Thus, if the unit does not contain an Autotrack PWB,
only CR9 will flash, indicating repeated attempts to send data
with no reply.
(d) CR8 lights to indicate that a maintenance computer has been
connected to the servo PWB for local control operation.
f) Refer to Table 5.2 to help isolate the fault to a particular module.
Often the controller can be quickly repaired by replacing a module.
Refer to the schematic diagrams in Chapter 7 as necessary.
g) After replacing the faulty module, retest the controller.
Table 5.2. Troubleshooting
Symptom
Things to Check
Nothing happens when power
switch turned ON
Verify power supply voltages and check fuses.
Front-panel screen has rolling
horizontal lines
Verify ORI PWB is running by checking LEDs on the PWB. If
LEDs are not flashing, replace board. If LEDs are functioning,
check cable and connections between 3860 backplane and front-
panel PWB. Replace front-panel PWB.
Display is dark; difficult to read
Verify that back light wires from front panel PWB are connected
to the high voltage driver board mounted to the back of the front-
panel PWB. Replace defective high voltage driver PWB.
Message at bottom of screen reads
"Trnsmt Error: Serial Prt 1"
This message indicates a break in the communications channel
between the ORI PWB and the servo PWB in the 3860.
Check the connection between these PWBs first. Depending on
the system configuration, this may be a serial cable link, a pair of
fiber- optic cables, or traces on the indoor unit backplane. Also,
ensure that both selected axes are axes that exist in the system.
For example, axes A-D are assigned to the first servo PWB. Axes
E-H are assigned to a second servo PWB. In systems with only
one servo PWB, if one of axes E-H is selected, a transmit error is
generated.
Verify servo board is running by checking LEDs CR10 and CR12
on the board. If LEDs are not flashing, replace board.
The host computer may have made an attempt to send or receive
data to or from a nonexistent axis. Check the latest
communications packet from the host. If this was the cause of the
message, the error message may be cleared by pressing the ESC
key on the front panel.
