Chapter 4 - Principles of Operation
4.2.3 Operator/remote Interface Assembly
The Operator/Remote Interface (ORI) Assembly (Figure 4.5) is equipped
with a Motorola 68302 microprocessor and provides all functions necessary
to allow an operator to interface with the 3860 Digital Controller. This
interface is accomplished through the front-panel controls. The
Operator/Remote Interface Assembly has an internal processor to
communicate with the controller, display status and position data on the
front-panel display, and accept user commands from the front-panel controls.
The assembly also has a serial interface to remote control computers in RS-
422, RS-232, or IEEE-488 format. The assembly provides the digital
conversion of the AGC from the receiver for steptrack applications. The
Operator/Remote Interface Assembly is not required in the outdoor
configuration where no indoor unit, and therefore no front panel, is
provided. In that instance, the PC Interface Module is required for user
interface and steptrack capabilities.
