Chapter 3 - Operation
Chapter 3
Operation
3.1 Introduction
This chapter contains operation instructions for the Series 3860 Digital
Controller. These instructions describe:
•
Align position readouts to true north (or other appropriate reference).
•
Determine that target signal specifications powering on the controller and
choosing operational parameters. Prior to operation, such as frequency
and polarization, are known and within the operating range of the
system.
3.2 Modes of Operation
The 3860 Digital Controller has three operational modes:
•
LOCAL — controller accepts commands from a computer located at the
pedestal.
•
REMOTE — controller accepts commands from an external host
computer.
•
FRONT PANEL — controller accepts commands from the optional front-
panel controls.
3.2.1 Local Pedestal Control
Local pedestal control may be purchased as an accessory item and is not
described in full detail by this manual.
In the local pedestal operating mode, a portable computer is connected to the
local control connector at the pedestal. Local control software running on the
computer provides most of the functions of the digital controller’s front
panel. While in local mode, the digital controller’s front-panel controls are
not active, but the front-panel display is updated. The front panel displays
"LCL" when in local mode. Note that connecting or disconnecting the local
mode cable places all axes in Standby mode.
Enter local mode by selecting from softkey menus and connecting the local
control cable. When operating in local mode, commands from the front panel
or another control computer are ignored.
