Troubleshooting workstation application problems

Error 1706 after installing Microsoft SQL Server 2005 Express Edition.

Symptom:

The following error occurs while installing Microsoft SQL Server 2005 Express

Edition as part of the Recording Archive Service installation process (as described on page
10-8.)

“Error 1706: An installation package for the product Microsoft SQL Server Native Client
cannot be found. Try the installation again using a valid copy of the installation package
‘sqlncli.msi’.”

Solution:

1.

Download the following file from the Microsoft Download Center:

http://download.microsoft.com/download/4/4/D/44DBDE61-B385-4FC2-A67D-48053B
8F9FAD/sqlncli.msi

2.

In the Windows Control Panel, go to

Add or Remove Programs

.

3.

Scroll to

Microsoft SQL Native Client

and uninstall it.

4.

Run

sqlncli.msi

.

5.

Reinstall Microsoft SQL Server 2005 Express Edition, as described on page 10-8.
