Note: Cover all gas tanks and filler necks with a non flammable material before welding.
11. Attaching Upper Nest Pivots to Upper Nest: See Dwg. 6114 Figure 11
From under the truck push the bed upward and position the upper nest pivots so that one flange
of the angle is against the upper nest and the other flange on the upper nest pivot is toward the
rear of the truck. Use the adjusting bolts, in the base mounting assembly of the main hoist
frame, to angle the hoist as high as possible without lifting bed. This clears the differential. See
Figure 13 below.
Activate hoist "up" slowly until upper nest pivots make contact with upper nest assembly on
underside of bed. Now adjust the hoist pitch. Square up bed to cab before spot welding the
angles to the upper nest.
Be sure to protect gas tank before spot welding upper nest pivots to upper nest. The upper
nest pivots (pushed against the square tubing on the outside of the upper nest) are spot welded
to the upper nest.
Push the collars on the upper shaft, against the upper nest pivot. Spot weld the inside of the
collar to the pivot shaft - repeat for other upper nest pivot assembly. Do not weld collar to the
upper nest pivot tubing. Raise the hoist and prop body safely in "up" position. Complete
welding of the upper nest pivots and shaft collars.
