Azimuth and inclination measurements

Factors influencing azimuth accuracy

The device has a digital compass that works similar to a magnetic compass. Metal objects, magnetic
fields and electronic devices (e.g. radio) can cause error in directional readings. Nonmagnetic
metals and alloys do not affect the compass readings.

Countermeasures

• Compensate the compass after every battery change (see page 33)
• Observe the minimum safe distances shown above when making azimuth

measurements or compass compensation.
