DRIVING AND TOWING
Mirrors
The law says you must have mirrors to provide an adequate view to the rear
and along both sides of your Caravan. If your Caravan obscures the view
from your rear view mirror, or your Caravan is wider than your car, you will
need additional external towing mirrors. These should not project more
than 200mm (250mm if your towing mirrors are E-marked to the latest
standard) beyond your unit's widest points.
Make sure the mirrors are adjusted correctly and extension mirrors, where
required, are removed when not towing.
Vehicles registered since 26 January 2007 should have the latest
specification mirrors i.e. an 'E' marking contained within a circle.
Speed Limits
Where a lower limit is not in force, caravans can be towed at up to a
maximum of 50mph on single carriageways or 60mph on duel carriageways
and motorways.
Caravan Handling
allow for the Caravan being wider than the car. Do not bump the kerb with
the caravan wheels.
When passing other vehicles allow more than the normal clearance for
driving solo.
Allow longer to get up speed to pass. Allow for vehicle being twice its
normal length.
