3.16 Electronic Control Box
3.16.1 Control Box
Figure 3.51
The Control box is an electronic control system for operating the bout markers, the seed feed unit,
tramlining etc.
Memory
The Control Box has a memory which can retain various settings: sown area, tramlining, selected
markers, actual sowing bout etc. Even if the Control Box is switched off and the input cables dis-
connected, all information in the memory will be saved. It is always good to make a note of the
relevant sowing settings if a bout is interrupted. This means the Control Box will not be out of step
when work is resumed.
On/Off main switch
Check all connections before switching on the Control Box using the main switch (C).
Autostep
The Control Box normally operates with ‘Autostep’. This means that the Box moves on one step
automatically at the end of each bout. This stepping means that the tramlining and bout marking
programmes are automatically advanced. Autostep of the bout markers can be switched off by tur-
ning switch (A) to the up position.
Low lift Function
Sowing must always be carried out with Low Lift on (Switch B in the middle position) to allow
optimal hydraulic function of the seed drill.
The Low lift function limits the lifting height so that turning can take place quickly and simply
and without unnecessary lifting of the drill.
Tramlining and bout marking are advanced during turning in Autostep. If it is necessary to raise
the drill during a bout, to avoid an obstruction or to go and refill, Autostep and Low lift must first
be switched off. The switches are beside one another.
When sowing is to be resumed, the switches for Autostep and Low lift should be turned on again.
This procedure is necessary to prevent the Control Box getting out of step with the tramlining and
bout changes.
Locking in the working position (Lift stop)
When a bout marker has to be pulled in to avoid an obstruction, switch B must first be moved to
the down position. The marker can then be manipulated using the hydraulic lever. It can be exten-
ded or retracted without affecting sowing depth.
Afterwards, reset switch B to its original (centre) position.
