CY409 Issue 3
GPS Module Assembly - Use & Operation
This document provides details on the use and operation of the CY409 GPS option module
assembly on a CY490 SPG.
Important notes
1. The length of the RF cable used for GPS installations should be kept as short as possible, and
use good quality cable.
2. The antenna should be of the active type, and be mounted so as to achieve the maximum
uninterrupted view of the sky from horizon to horizon. An outdoor installation is highly
recommended.
Courtyard supplies, as part of the GPS option, a suitable active antenna, a pre-made 8 meter
aerial cable, and an adapter cable to fit between the SPG and aerial cable.
If any components are substituted, the system may behave erratically, or not at all. Please contact
Courtyard for further information.
Installation
a. Firstly, fit the brass-ended adapter cable to the GPS connector on the rear of the
CY490 SPG unit.
b. Connect the 8m aerial cable to the adapter cable – note : this cable is handed; only one
connector will properly mate with the adapter cable.
c. Run the aerial cable along the required route – avoid sharp/square corners.
d. Connect the aerial cable to the pre-mounted antenna.
e. Install Courtyard’s “MiniMessage” program on a convenient PC that is connected to
the CY490 SPG unit via a suitable comms cable. This will enable you to monitor the
status of the GPS system. “MiniMessage” may be supplied as a separate package.
