Pattern phrase playback using BPM detection
79
BPM detection of audio signals
(Audio Tempo)
This function can be used to detect the tempo of audio signals
input from an external device and switch over pattern phrases
with the detected tempo.
During pattern phrase playback, the phrase playback speed is
changed in response to the detected BPM. For example, if a
phrase configured with a 120 BPM switchover timing is
detected to have a tempo of 180 BPM, the phrase playback
speed is changed to 1.5 times.
Connecting external devices
Input an audio signal from a background music player or audio
system into the AUDIO IN terminal on the rear panel of the
UDMR.
Tempo detection based on audio
signals
The UDMR detects BPM based on low noises with a
constant tempo such as drums. For this reason, the tempo
cannot be detected from human voices such as vocals or
solo musical instrument performances.
The detectable BPM range is 90 - 180 BPM.
Furthermore, the rated input level for the AUDIO IN
terminal is -40 - 0 dBu (0 dBu = 0.775 Vrms).
The AUDIO IN terminal's
input level displayed
during audio tempo
detection (p.80). If the
audio tempo is too big or
too small, adjust the
signal level on the
external device.
Terminals used for audio signal BPM
detection
BPM detection is initiated by creating a short circuit between
the '6 BPM COUNT' and COM (common) terminals.
The 6 BPM COUNT terminal only functions as the BPM
detection terminal during playback of phrases configured with
a switchover timing of 'BPM'. In all other situations, it functions
as a direct or binary playback terminal depending on the
control input terminal settings (p.50).
