Pattern phrase playback using BPM detection
Definition of BPM detection
You can use BPM to designate the switchover timing of
playback pattern phrases (p.38).
The switchover timing BPM is designated during pattern
phrase creation (p.38). In the case of live and impromptu
performances where conditions differ slightly to
pre-designated tempos, you can use the following functions to
instantly adjust the switchover timing:
'Tap Tempo' function performs pattern phrase switchover
by detecting BPM from the switch tap tempo.
'Audio Tempo' function performs pattern phrase
switchover by detecting BPM from the performance and
BGM audio signals.
BPM detection using Tap
Tempo
By turning on a switch connected to a control input terminal on
the rear panel of the UDMR at a constant tempo, the UDMR
can detect this tempo and use it as the pattern phrase
switchover BPM.
The '7 TAP' terminal is detected 'on' and the time interval
(between each 'on') is measured.
Once detected 'on' three times, the BPM is then
calculated based on the average time interval.
Once detected four times, the BPM is detected from the
average time interval up until then, and updated.
The Tap Tempo function can detect tempos in the range of 40 -
240 BPM.
During pattern phrase playback, the phrase playback speed is
changed in response to the detected BPM. For example, if a
phrase configured with a 120 BPM switchover timing is
detected to have a tempo of 180 BPM, the phrase playback
speed is changed to 1.5 times.
Connecting external devices
Connect the switch to the '7 TAP' terminal on the rear panel of
the UDMR. The tap is detected by creating a short circuit
between the 7 TAP and COM (common) terminals.
The '7 TAP' terminal only functions as a tap tempo terminal
during playback of phrases for which the switchover timing
has been configured to 'BPM'. In all other situations, the
terminal functions as a direct or binary playback terminal
depending on the control input terminal settings (p.50).
