6.

Install the spark plug and the gasket seal.

7.

Torque the plug to 17 ft-lb (23 N-m).

8.

Connect the wire to the spark plug.

Check Spark Arrester

(if equipped)

Service Interval: Every 50 hours

WARNING

Hot exhaust system components may ignite
gasoline vapors even after the engine is stopped.
Hot particles exhausted during engine operation
may ignite flammable materials. Fire may result
in personal injury or property damage.

Do Not refuel or run engine unless spark arrester
is installed.

1.

Stop engine, wait for all moving parts to stop.

2.

Wait for muffler to cool.

3.

If any breaks in the screen or welds are observed,
replace arrester.

4.

If plugging of the screen is observed, remove
arrester and shake loose particles out of the
arrester and clean screen with a wire brush (soak
in solvent if necessary). Reinstall arrester on
exhaust outlet.

Check the Seed Gate

Service Interval: Before each use or daily

1.

Stop engine, wait for all moving parts to stop, and
remove spark plug wire. Engage parking brake.

2.

Check to verify the seed gate moves freely and
is clear of debris. If necessary, clean the gate
assembly (see

Cleaning the Seed Gate

in the

Cleaning section).

3.

If the seed gate does not open to the stop, when
the seeder control lever is in the On position,
clean the gate assembly (see

Cleaning the Seed

Gate

in the Cleaning section).

Thread Locking Adhesives

Thread locking adhesives such as “Loctite 242”
or “Fel-Pro, Pro-Lock Nut Type” are used on the
following fasteners:

Clutch retaining bolt in end of engine crankshaft.

All set screws.

Emptying the Fuel Tank

Service Interval: As required

1.

Stop the engine and wait for it to cool down.
Engage parking brake.

Note:

Drain gasoline for a cold engine only.

2.

Disconnect the wire from the spark plug.

3.

Close the fuel valve.

4.

Disconnect the fuel line by loosening the tube
clamp at the carburetor.

5.

Open the fuel valve by turning the lever to the
open position.

6.

Drain the gasoline completely from the tank and
fuel line into an approved fuel container.

7.

Remove the fuel tank from the machine.

8.

Close the fuel valve.

9.

Pour a small amount of fuel in the fuel tank, move
the fuel around in the tank, and pour it out into
an approved fuel container.

10.

Install the fuel tank and fuel line.
