Q. Centring the Lamp Core
(1) The focus of the light beam is an essential part of the Trakkabeam
®
searchlight since any change
in the beam alignment will seriously degrade the effectiveness of the beam.
(2) Following any work that causes movement of the lamp core, realignment (centring) of the lamp
core will be required and should be carried out in a workshop with the lamp assembly removed
from the searchlight casing.
NOTE: Beam alignment can be carried out with the A800 still attached to the aircraft and
using an umbilical cord but there may be some difficulty in observing the centre
of the beam (Figure 80 and Figure 81) in strong sunlight.
(3) Equipment
The following equipment will need to be provided for this procedure.
(a) A suitable jig to prevent movement of the lamp assembly during adjustment. Chapter 10
illustrates a lamp assembly jig.
(b) Umbilical cable to allow servicing at a distance from the gimbal assembly. Available from
Trakka Service Department.
(c) PCIU MKII.
(d) Grip hand controller (Port 1).
(e) Power source for the PCIU MKII.
(f) Torque wrench 4.6 Nm.
(g) Anti-glare safety glasses in accordance with AS/NZS 1337 and 1338 or similar.
(h) A flat, vertical surface (2.4 m x 2.4 m) at 10 metres distance from the lamp assembly jig
NOTE: There should be no obstructions between the lamp and the test surface. The
setup area must also be away from personnel to avoid eye damage while the
lamp is in operation.
