F-em User Guide
6.2 Modulation Sources
In the next sub chapters all modulation sources as for example the Flow
LFOs or additional sources are described in detail.
These sources are located at the bottom of the user interface and stays
always active, regardless of the selected edit page above.
Flow LFO 1 and LFO 2
F-em offers 2 Flow LFOs. These low-frequency oscillator (LFO) are
used to modulate parameters periodically. The LFO usually offers the
same or similar waveforms as an audio oscillator, but it doesn‘t produce
any sound by itself, it usually oscillates in subsonic frequencies around 1
Hz, sometimes slower, sometimes faster. It is typically used to modulate
Pitch
to create a vibrato,
Volume
to create a tremolo or
Filter Cutoff
to
create an auto-wah effect. Since F-em offers free modulation
assignments, you can also modulate other aspects of the sound with the
LFO like e.g. one of the
Envelopes Decay
, or the
Band Frequencies
of
the Equalizer.
The F-em Flow LFOs contain a unique functionality: Both Flow LFO
provides up to 8 slots with independent parameter settings. This means,
that you can set up a complex LFO arrangement based on 8 completely
different LFOs which can be switched through by another modulation
source, e.g. the Mod Wheel.
Click on the
LFO 1
or
LFO 2
button to call up the corresponding Flow
LFO.
•
Assign
: Click on the “Assign” button to call up the modulation
assignment for 49
•
Slots
: Here you can determine the number of LFOs (from 1 to
8) that act within the corresponding LFO.
•
Slot Selector
: The white button within the LFO graphics shows,
which of the LFO is active. Move the button horizontally to
select the desired LFO. The setting of this button is important
when assigning a modulation to it.
•
Mono
: If deactivated, each voice of a sound has its own LFO
starting at the selected
Start Phase
and running with its rate. If
activated, the sound only uses one LFO for all voices. The first
voice of any overlapping notes determines the start phase and
each following voice synchronizes to it.
•
Clock
: Activates or deactivates the synchronization of the
LFO
Rate
to the internal clock. Please note that this parameter only
