Introduction
Congratulations on purchasing your TRACE ELLIOT Rev PA system.
Please take a few minutes to read the following instructions to ensure maximum safety and reliability from these loudspeakers.
TRACE ELLIOT’s experience in the Pro-Audio industry with continued development of amplifiers and loudspeaker systems has led us to
develop a range of install cabinets. The Revo 8 and Revo 10 represent a new concept in enclosure design being manufactured from very
rigid tubing. The construction of the units allows them to be very strong as well as providing a smooth dynamic response ideally suited to
the reproduction of recorded music in a variety of situations.
The Revo 10 is also ideally suited to PA applications for use in small band and vocal monitoring situations.
Installation and room positioning
Both units are fitted with brackets to accommodate the omnimount installation system. This represents the industry standard for
permanent mounting of loudspeaker cabinets and provides the most versatile method of positioning the speakers to give the required
coverage.
The Revo 8 uses the omnimount 50WA system and the Revo 10 uses the 75WA system, each designed for the respective weights. These
are available from your TRACE ELLIOT dealer and are not included as the units can be used free-standing. Full instructions for the
mounting of the cabinets and all precautionary information is found in the booklet supplied with the omnimount hardware.
Ideally the units should be positioned in the corner of the room or at least close to a rear wall in open surroundings. It is best to try and
keep other objects away from them which may interfere with the sound reproduction. When using one pair try to keep them spaced apart
on the same plane and in many situations when using pairs or multiple pairs a better result is obtained running the system in mono so
sound coverage is maximised. Take care to only use the brackets provided and never screw to or through the cabinets.
The two units are also fitted with 35mm top hats to allow them to be stand mounted for non-permanent applications. Stands are available
from your Trace Ellioit dealer.
Connecting the system
The Revo 8 is fitted with two connectors wired in parallel. One is a standard 1/4” jack socket wired tip + VE and the other is a sprung wire
trap type which will accept bare wires (red being + VE). Take care when using this method that no stray ends can be shorted between the
terminals (i.e tightly twist the wire ends before clipping them in).
When running multiple pairs off a single amplifier the cabinets should be wired in parallel, i.e. either twist the two sets of wires together
(+VE to +VE, -VE to - VE) before clipping them in or use the other connector to link to the next cab.
The Revo 10 is fitted with a 4-way speakon socket wired +VE on 1+ and -VE on 1- and also a single jack socket which is wired from the
speakon in parallel. We recommend the use of the speakon wherever possible as this provides the best and most reliable connection from
the amplifier, as they are lockable. The jack socket can then be used to link to other cabinets.
Amplification and precautions
The Revo 8 and 10 are rated at 100Watts RMS and 150Watts RMS respectively. We recommend the use of power amps rated at least
100Watts per channel as damaged to the speakers is far more likely to occur with the clipping distortion associated with overdriving a
smaller power amp than over powering the speakers with a larger amplifier. If at any time distortion is heard then the output level from the
amplifier should be reduced.
Used properly, loudspeakers will rarely fail and if a similar distortion is evident in more than one cabinet in a system then the fault
generally lies somewhere else in the set up (speakers only reproduce the signals fed to them).
Both of the models are 8 ohms so two pairs can be run from the TRACE ELLIOT PPA300 and PPA600 power amps as they drive down to
4 ohms. Four pairs can be run off a PPA1200 as this will provide its full power into 2 ohms.
