Security Features
The security feature to be supported is password.
1.20.1
Passwords
The notebook supports one level password protection. The password supported consists of up
to eight characters, and is stored in CMOS.
When the password is enabled, the notebook may display a suitable password prompt on the
main display in the following situations:
(a) Turning on from the Off State.
(b) Turning on from Hibernate.
(c) Entering Setup.
The User will attempt to enter a password, then press
ENTER
. If the User fails to enter the
password in three tries the system will return to the state it was turned on from (off, Suspend
to Disk).
All user data on screen must not be visible before entering the correct password.
User Password
The user can choose to enable or disable:
(a) Password required on boot
(b) Password required on resume from hibernate
The user may also require entry of the user password before entering setup menu. While
setting new password, three failures to enter the old password will result in the system halt.
Valid Password Characters
(a) The numbers 0 to 9.
(b) The letters A to Z (not case sensitive).
(c) The special symbols - (dash), =, [, ], ;, \, ‘, ‘, , (comma), ., /, and (space)
The password is stored as scan codes. Both passwords will be encrypted before being stored
in CMOS RAM using the standard Phoenix password encryption technique.
1.20.2
Software Password back door
Because users occasionally forget their password, we have defined a Master password to pass
the password requests in all conditions.
