Appendix C:
Battery Replacement
The Toshiba Magnia 510D server has a built-in CR2032 lithium battery which provides
the power necessary to retain time and the system configuration information. In normal
use, the battery should last for about 5 years.
If you are unsure how to replace the battery yourself, contact your authorized service
representative.
Observe the following when replacing the battery:
❖
Don’t charge, disassemble, or remove the battery electrode.
❖
Don’t incinerate the battery or expose it to excessive heat.
❖
Store the battery in a cool dry place.
❖
When disposing of the battery, adhere to local government rules and regulations.
❖
Set the electrodes (+/-) of the battery properly. Otherwise you risk causing heat, an
explosion, or a fire.
❖
To ensure proper system operation, replace the battery with one of the same type.
Replacing the battery
1
Remove the bezel and the side panel of the server. For instructions, see
Removing
and installing the bezel and side panel
on page 31.
2
If any expansion cards are obstructing access to the battery, remove the card(s)
according to the removal procedures in this guide. Refer to
Hot-Swap Drive Carrier
on page 56 in Chapter 2.
DANGER: The server uses a lithium battery. Improper installation or use can cause
damage by heat, fire, or explosion.
TECHNICAL NOTE: Removing the battery will cause the system’s configuration
information to be lost. Before removing the battery, write down your server’s
configuration data for later re-entry.
