If the server stops without completing the POST, this indicates that a fatal system error
has occurred. Write down the data shown on the screen and note the beep patterns
(output beep code), which will help a service engineer to diagnose the problem.
The POST checks the server’s storage devices. Make sure their indicators light properly.

Check that the floppy disk drive’s In-use light operates properly. If it does not, refer to

Check that the activity light installed for each installed hard disk drive operates
properly. If it does not, refer to

When the server boots, the operating system menu appears. If it is not displayed, refer to
Initial startup
on page 124 in this chapter.
Before calling for service
If you are unable to resolve a problem, check that you have the following information
before calling an authorized service representative.

The model number and the serial number of the server
(They are indicated on the label on the back of the server.)
❖
A list of the installed hardware and software components
❖
The operating system you use
❖
The LAN/WAN system configuration
❖
The software environment of the server
❖
A brief description of the problem
❖
The date that the problem occurred and the frequency of the occurrences
❖
The circumstances under which the problem occurs
❖
How to replicate the problem
Error check
When the server starts, the POST automatically executes to check the system main
board, memory, keyboard, and so on.
HINT: To check the HDD SCSI activity lights, you must remove the server’s side
panel.
