Playing a CD or DVD using Windows 98 Second Edition
If you have installed a PC Card CD-ROM drive, or fitted a CD-
ROM or DVD-ROM drive in the SelectBay of the optional
Multimedia Port Replicator, you can play CD-ROMs, audio CDs
and DVD-ROMs.
Drive components
The features on the drive you have installed may differ slightly
from those described in this chapter, but they should work in the
same way.
Components
A CD-ROM or DVD-ROM drive has these features:
❖
Eject button—
Use the eject button to release the disc tray.
This button requires power to operate.
❖
Disc-In-Use light
—The disc-in-use light illuminates when the
drive is being accessed.
CAUTION: Never press the eject button or turn off the
computer while the disc-in-use light is glowing. Doing so
could damage the disc or the drive.
❖
Manual eject hole
—Provides access to the manual eject
button, allowing you to manually open the disc tray when
power to the computer and the drive is off.
To open the disc tray manually, insert a straightened paper clip
or other narrow object through the manual eject button’s
access hole.
❖
Vent
—Usually located at the lower side of the drive; it cools
the drive’s internal mechanisms. Avoid blocking this vent.
