Charging and Connecting
the Battery
No Parts Required
Procedure
Battery terminals or metal tools could short
against metal components, causing sparks.
Sparks can cause the battery gasses to
explode, resulting in personal injury.
•
When removing or installing the battery,
do not allow the battery terminals to
touch any metal parts of the traction unit.
•
Do not allow metal tools to short between
the battery terminals and metal parts of
the traction unit.
1. Remove the 4 bolts securing the battery cover
and remove it from over the battery.
2. Remove and discard the plastic cap from the
negative battery terminal.
3. Connect a charger to the battery (Figure 4) and
charge it for a minimum of 1 hour at 6 to 10
amps. Do not overcharge the battery.

Charging the battery produces gasses
that can explode.
Never smoke near the battery and keep
sparks and flames away from battery.
4. When the battery is fully charged, unplug
the charger from the electrical outlet, then
disconnect the charger leads from the battery
posts (Figure 4).
5. Cut the tie securing the loose end of the
negative battery cable to the frame. The cable
is located to the right of the engine and is
routed forward and tied to the frame at the
factory.
6. Route the negative battery cable from the
engine compartment to the battery and secure
it to the negative battery terminal.
7. Install the battery cover and close the rear
access cover.

Checking Fluid Levels
No Parts Required
Procedure
Before starting the engine for the first time, check
the engine oil, radiator coolant, and hydraulic fluid
levels. Refer to Operation for more information.
