Turn the throttle grip toward "SLOW" and
move the Shift Lever quickly to Forward or
Rever
s e when the engine s peed ha s
reached the lowe s t rpm.
S evere damage, and personal injury, may
occur if shifting at high engine speed.
Engine must be in the slow idle position
before shifting is attempted.
Before shifting, make sure that no swim-
mer(s) or obstacle(s) is ahead or astern of
the boat.

Before moving the S hift Lever to
Reverse, make sure the Reverse Lock is
engaged (in up position).

Do not increase the engine speed
unnecessarily while reversing.

The S hift Lever cannot be turned from
Neutral to Reverse unless the throttle
grip has been turned fully toward
"
S LOW".
Note
Frequent s hifting to forward or rever s e can
accelerate wear or degradation of part s . In
s uch ca s e, replace gear oil earlier than the
period s pecified.
