MAINTENANCE
Spark Plugs
To ensure proper engine operation,
the spark plug must be properly
gapped and free of deposits.
The spark plug becomes very hot
during operation and will remain
hot for a while after stopping the
engine. Allow the engine to cool
before servicing the spark plug.
Check interval:
Every 200 operating hours or every
year.
Replace interval:
Every 400 hours or 2 years
Recommended spark plug:
IZFR6K-11E (NGK)
Use only the recommended spark
plugs or equivalent. Spark plugs
which have an improper heat range
may cause engine damage.
This outboard motor uses spark plugs
that have an iridium coated center
electrode. Be sure to observe the
following when servicing the spark
plugs.
• Do not clean the spark plugs. If an
electrode is contaminated with
accumulated objects or dirt, replace
the spark plug with a new one.
The cleaning of the iridium spark
plugs consult with your serving
dealer, unless the owner has the
proper tools and is mechanically
proficient.
• Use only a ‘‘wire-type feeler
gauge’’ to check the spark plug gap
if necessary. To prevent damaging
the iridium coating of the center
electrode, never use a ‘‘leaf-type
feeler gauge.’’
• Do not adjust the spark plug gap. If
the gap is out of specification,
replace the spark plug with a new
one.
