Collect a Mosaic
The first step in analyzing your sample is collecting a mosaic image. A mosaic is a collection of
visual images of the sample surface. Use the mosaic to visually inspect the sample surface and
to set up your analysis. For example, once the mosaic is collected, use the automatic or manual
region tools to specify regions to analyze, use Live Spectrum mode to refine your settings, or
locate particles in the mosaic for particle analysis.
You can collect a standard mosaic or a terrain mosaic. A terrain mosaic automatically ensures
that the entire mosaic is in focus, even if your sample surface is rough or uneven. A terrain
mosaic takes longer to collect but results in more accurate data if your sample is not perfectly
flat or level. With a terrain mosaic, you can view a terrain map. A terrain map is a 3D
visualization of the sample surface topography.
If you are collecting a terrain mosaic, you may want to use a longer working distance lens. A
long working distance lens will allow more room between the lens and the sample and can
help prevent accidentally bumping the lens into the sample.
To collect a mosaic, you will load a sample and bring it into focus and then collect the mosaic.

•
Warn if performance verification is out-of-date
. Select this
option to configure the software to automatically check the
current PV information for the installed laser set and warn
the user if the information is out-of-date.
•
Maximum performance verification age
. Lets you define a
time limit in days before new PV data is required for the
installed laser set.
