Purging Gas from the Oil in a Rotary-Vane Pump
Purging (or decontaminating) the oil in a rotary-vane pump removes dissolved gases and
low-boiling-point liquids from the oil. Purge the oil if it is cloudy or discolored. You can
purge the oil without interrupting system operation. However, do not purge the pump during
an acquisition or while the electron multiplier or filament is on.
To purge oil from the rotary-vane pump:
1. Make sure you are not in the middle of an acquisition and the electron multiplier and
filament are OFF. Use the
Xcalibur
Tune window to confirm these items are off.
2. Prepare the rotary-vane pump for purging.
CAUTION - INSTRUMENT DAMAGE.
Use only factory-approved rotary-vane pump oil to
avoid damaging the instrument or causing a fire.
