Checking Oil Level
NOTE: Care should be taken when using the dipstick to
measure engine oil level. The PCV system will cause oil to
be thrown out when the dipstick is removed. Engine oil
level should be measured while the engine is off.
Crossover Hose Alignment
During a routine service on these units, check the orienta-
tion of the crossover hose from the air intake adapter to the
valve cover. It is important to avoid kinks and bends in the
hose to prevent icing during cold weather operation.
ENGINE AIR CLEANER (Filter)
A heavy duty, dry air cleaner filters all of the air entering the
engine. Excessive restriction of the air intake system
reduces the flow of air to the engine affecting horsepower
output, fuel consumption and engine life.
An air restriction indicator is installed in the air intake man-
ifold. Visually inspect the restriction indicator periodically
to assure the air filter is not restricted. Service the air filter
when the yellow diaphragm indicates 558.8 mm (22 in.) of
vacuum. Press the reset button on the top of the restriction
indicator after servicing the air filter.
