BACKLAPPING THE CUTTING UNIT
The keen cutting edges of the spiral cutters can be
maintained by the process of ‘backlapping’.
1.
Tilt the machine backwards.
WARNING
Turn petrol tap to the “OFF” position before
tilting the machine rearwards.
2.
Check the cutting cylinder is set correctly
to the bottom blade (see previous note).
3.
Disengage the cylinder clutch and landroll
clutch, when fitted.
4.
Remove the belt cover.
5.
Smear some carborundum paste* on the
spiral cutters.
6.
Rotate the cutting cylinder clockwise by
using a socket spanner and brace on
screw (7) at the LH end of the cylinder
spindle.
NOTE: During the ‘backlapping’ operation regular
checks should be made on the setting of the cutting
cylinder to the bottom blade and if necessary slight
adjustments made.
When the cutters have been sharpened satisfactorily
they will cut the paper cleanly along the length of the
bottom blade.
WIPE OFF ALL TRACES OF THE
CARBORUNDUM PASTE.
* Obtainable from most automobile service stations.
