Repair
Traction Pump
Removal and Installation
1.
Park the mower safely. (See “Park Mower Safely” on
page 1-6.)
2.
Raise the hood
3.
Drain hydraulic oil tank. (See “Hydraulic Oil Tank—
Drain Procedure” on page 6-49.)
4.
Remove gear pump. (See “Gear Pump” on
page 6-49.)
5.
Remove traction linkage. (See “Traction Linkage” on
page 5-6

Thoroughly clean the pump, especially the area
surrounding the hydraulic hoses and fittings.
NOTES
• Label all hydraulic hoses before disconnecting to
ensure correct installation.
• Close all openings with caps or plugs to prevent
contamination.

Note 45° fitting (2) orientation. Disconnect forward
traction hose (1) and remove 45° fitting.

Note 45° fitting (4) orientation. Disconnect reverse
traction hose (3) and remove 45° fitting.
9.
Disconnect charge pressure hose (5) and remove
90° fitting (6).
10. Disconnect case drain hose (7) and remove 90°
fitting (

WARNING
11. Attach a suitable lifting device to the pump (9).
12. Remove two flat washers (10), lock washers (11),
and bolts (12).
13. Move the traction pump (9) toward the left of the
machine until the input shaft clears the bell housing
(13).
Installation Notes
• Install the hydrostatic pump by reversing the order of
removal.
• Lubricate all O-rings prior to assembly.
• Make sure new O-rings are in place before installing
hoses on fittings.
• Torque case drain fitting (8) to 110 lb-ft (149 N·m).
• Torque case drain hose (7) to 65 lb-ft (88 N·m).
• Torque charge pressure fitting (6) to 90 lb-ft (122
N·m).
• Torque charge pressure hose (5) to 65 lb-ft (88 N·m).
• Torque 45° fittings (2 and 4) to 110 lb-ft (149 N·m).
make certain fittings are orientated correctly.
• Torque traction hoses (1 and 3) to 65 lb-ft (88 N·m).
• Pressure filter traction system upon start-up if metal
debris is found in system oil or motor. (See “Portable
In-Line Filter” on page 5-5.)
• Fill the hydraulic oil tank. (Refer to “Safety, Operation,
and Maintenance Manual” for the correct oil
specifications.)
• Start engine. Check for leaks and repair as
necessary.
