Lightspeed Live Capture User Guide
Care must be taken not to exceed the limits of the Lightspeed Live server's available
resources. The factors that consume the Lightspeed Live server's resources are
described in the following topics. The following items will have an effect on resources
used by individual workflows.
Browser Operation is Not Included in Usage Calculations
Telestream recommends that you connect to the Lightspeed Live Web Applications
from browsers running on client machines, and not to run browsers UIs directly on the
Lightspeed Live servers. This avoids additional decoding load for the Live Web app’s
preview displays on the Live Capture servers.
Live Web Apps include:
•
Live Capture UI
•
Live Tape UI
•
Source Manager UI
Browser operation on the Lightspeed Live servers are not included in the resource
usage calculations in this chapter.
Determining the Time-Shift Buffer Duration
The Time-Shift buffer has a maximum duration of 60 seconds for each source input. The
amount of memory used by each instance of Time-Shift buffer is directly related to the
frame size and frame rate of the inputs source video. The Lightspeed Live server
contains 64GB of RAM where Time-Shift data will be buffered to. It is a best practice to
limit each input source's Time-Shift buffer to 15 seconds when using large frame sizes
and high frame rates.
Use the following data as a baseline when determining the duration of each input
source's Time-Shift buffer.
Standard Definition (SD) Codecs
•
NTSC and PAL
—No limit to the duration of a source's Time-Shift buffer is required.
High Definition (HD) Codecs
•
720p/1080i /1080p up to 30fps
—The total for all input source Time-Shift buffers
combined should not exceed 120 seconds.
•
720p/1080p above 30fps
—The total for all input source Time-Shift buffers com-
bined should not exceed 100 seconds.
UHD/4K Codecs
•
Limit the Time-Shift buffer to a maximum of 10 seconds.
Note:
For information on where to set the Time-Shift buffer, see
Creating Capture and Tape Workflows
chapter.
