Settling Time Measurement Overview
The Settling Time measurement (Option 12) is used to measure frequency and phase settling time
of frequency-agile oscillators and subsystems. Automated measurements can reduce user-to-user
measurement variations, improve repeatability and measurement con
fi
dence, and save time in gathering
results.

nitions
Settling time.
The time measured from a reference point to when the signal of interest settles to within
user-de
fi
ned tolerance.
Settled frequency.
The
fi
nal reference frequency, determined automatically or manually. The tolerance
band is centered about this settled frequency.
Settled phase.
The
fi
nal reference phase, determined automatically or manually. The tolerance band is
centered about this settled phase.
Mask Testing
Mask testing is a tool to automatically determine the pass/fail state of the Device-Under-Test. The mask
is de
fi
ned over three or fewer user-de
fi
ned time zones, with an independent limit band for each time
zone. If the mask is violated, the area of violation is highlighted in red on screen, and a Fail message is
displayed. The pass/fail status of the mask test can be queried over GPIB for rapid results. To con
