REPLACE THE REAR SPRINGS
If a spring has failed or is fatigued, then it is recommended that both rear springs are replaced as a set.
Hint: In most vehicles it will be easier if the springs are replaced one at a time.
6: Raise the rear of the vehicle and support with jack stands.
7: Tie up or support the rear axle so it cannot fall out of the vehicle.
8: Unbolt the spring from the axle housing.
9: Support the spring so that it cannot fall out of the vehicle.
10: Remove the remaining hardware retaining the spring to the frame.
11: Remove the spring from the vehicle.
12: Inspect the spring bolts and spring hangers for signs of wear or damage. If any wear or damage is found,
then they must be replaced.
13: Install the new spring in reverse order.
14:
If the spring hanger bolts do not have a grease fitting, lube the spring bushings before installing the spring.
15: Tighten the spring hanger bolts securely, but not so tight as to bind the spring.
16: Lower the vehicle.
17: Reconnect the main positive and negative cables at the batteries.
18: Remove the blocks from behind the wheels.
19: Release the parking brake and test drive the vehicle.
Always use a lifting strap, hoist, and jack stands, of adequate capacity to lift and support the vehicle. Failure
to use lifting and support devices of rated load capacity may result in severe bodily injury.
1) Make sure the key-switch is in the “OFF” position, then remove the key.
2) Place the forward-reverse switch in the center “OFF” position.
3) Set the park brake.
4) Place blocks under the front wheels to prevent vehicle movement.
5) Disconnect the main positive and negative cables at the batteries.
Damaged or worn spring bolts or hangers could result in sudden failure of the suspension causing severe
bodily injury or property damage.
