SUPPLEMENTARY RESTRAINT
SYSTEM (SRS - Airbags) (if
equipped)
The airbag ‘SRS’ system comprises of the
following components depending upon the
provided safety features in vehicle.
Seat belt Pre-tensioners
•
Seat belt with load limiters
•
Driver Airbag
•
Front Passenger Airbag
•
Side Airbags (if equipped)
•
Curtain Airbag (if equipped)
•
Airbag ‘SRS’ ECU (Electronic Control
•
Unit)
Collision Sensors
•
SRS wiring harness
•
SRS Warning lamp
•
The System is active when ignition switch
is in the “ON” position or the ignition mode
is “ON”. Airbags are designed to inflate in
severe collisions. In the event of a colli-
sion, the collision sensors will detect sig-
nals, and if the Airbag ECU judges that the
signals represent a severe collision, will
trigger the airbags. The inflated Airbags
provide a cushion to the occupants. The
Airbag inflates and deflates so quickly that
you may not even realize that it has acti-
vated. The Airbag will neither hinder your
view nor make it hurdle to exit the vehicle.
Airbag inflation is virtually instantaneous
and occurs with considerable force, ac-
companied by loud noise and smoke,
which is normal. The inflated airbag, to-
gether with seat belts, limit the movement
of an occupant, thereby reducing the risk
of injury.
When an airbag inflates, you may see
some smoke-like particles. The particles
are a normal by-product of the process
that generates the non-toxic gas used for
airbag inflation. These airborne particles
may irritate the skin, eyes, nose, or throat.
If you have skin or eye irritation, rinse the
area with water. For nose or throat irrita-
tion, move to fresh air. Also sometimes the
smoke can cause breathing problems, in
such cases get fresh air promptly.
After inflation, airbag provides a gradual
cushioning effect for the occupant there-
after deflates. It is not advisable to drive
your vehicle after the airbags have been
deployed. If you are involved in another
collision, the airbags will not be in place to
protect you.
