The FW-
1884
is
a professional DAW
control surface and
audio/MIDI interface
that uses FireWire’s
high-bandwidth capa-
bilities to provide
audio and MIDI inter-
facing to computers.
And it offers control
of DAW parameters
via eight

motorized touch-sen-
sitive channel faders,
one motorized mas-
ter fader, and controls
for pan, solo, mute
and select functions
on each channel…as
well as tactile con-
trol for four bands of
parametric EQ, a jog/
shuttle wheel and a
variety of shortcut
keys for various popu-
lar software applica-
tions.

By providing both
audio/MIDI interfac-
ing and control sur-
face capabilities, the
US-
428
provides two
distinct ways of help-
ing you work.
First, it allows you
to get four channels
of audio in and two
out along with 32
channels of MIDI I/O
— simultaneously via
USB. You get two mic
preamps for vocals
and four line inputs

four virtual aux sends
and a panpot. The US-

also provides con-
trol of many virtual
plug-in synths.

Our smallest USB
interface is a real
powerhouse in dis-
guise. Co-designed
with Frontier Design
Group, the US-
122
features two XLR-
based, phantom-pow-
ered mic inputs with
inserts and two line-
level inputs on bal-
anced
W"
TRS jacks,
switchable to guitar
level.
One of the only
small computer inter-
faces with analog
inserts, the US-
122
lets
you place hardware
devices (compressors,
etc.) into the record-
ing signal chain. The
US-
122
also provides
a dedicated control for
adjustable zero-laten-
cy direct monitoring,
providing a sonically
pure reference point
before entering DAW
processing. Its two
line-level outputs pro-
vide control for levels,
and a dedicated head-
phone output is also
included.
In addition to
audio interfacing,
the US-
122
gives you
16 channels of MIDI
I/O for use with syn-
thesizers and other
sound generating
equipment. The MIDI
I/O is also handy for
synchronization and
automation with
external devices.
The US-
122
excels at comput-
er compatibility.
It includes drivers
for ASIO, WDM,
GSIF and Apple
Core Audio (OS X)
software systems,
so you can turn
nearly any USB-
equipped comput-
er into a powerful
audio recording
system. Plus, the
US-
122
repre-
sents an excellent
mobile recording
solution since it’s
powered via USB…
just plug in a cou-
ple of condenser
mics and go!
ó
Word Clock in and out
jacks allow computer
systems to maintain
accurate clock syn-
chronization in digital
recording environ-
ments. Also, its assign-
able footswitch jack
can be used for tasks
such as hands-free
punching or MIDI
control. In use, the
FW-
1884
allows up to
18 audio inputs to be
accessed at once.

The TASCAM
US
-2400
is the first DAW fader
controller with enough faders to handle a typi-
cal recording session — and feel like a
real mixing console — without lots of
bank switching.
The US-
2400
features 25 touch-sen-
sitive moving channel faders and a
touch-sensitive motorized master fader,
each with 10-bit resolution for precise level con-
trol. Each channel has dedicated select, solo and
mute controls.
Twenty-four rotary encoders are provided,
selectable to control pan or up to 8 aux sends.
Plus, all 24 encoders can also be employed as
one large channel strip for four-band EQ, aux
and pan control. Each encoder has a ring of LEDs
that can display the current setting or double as
channel meters during recording and playback.
A set of solid-feeling transport buttons are
also provided, as well as a shuttle wheel and a
joystick for surround panning.
Compare it to any other controller on the
market today (and the extra expanders you’d
have to buy to get 24 motorized faders) and
you’ll discover that the US-
2400
gives you more
control for the money.
