8 Appendix 

8.1  iSCSI Initiator Installation 

To  make  the  created  slice  or  virtual  tape  device  available  an  iSCSI  initiator  must  be  installed. 
Depending  on  the  operating  system,  this  can  be  an  iSCSI  HBA  adapter  or  an  iSCSI  software 
initiator.   

Below  is  an  example  of  how  a  Microsoft  software  initiator  can  be  installed  and  utilized.  The 
example  used  MS  iSCSI  initiator  version  1.06.  This  iSCSI  initiator  can  freely  be  downloaded 
from the Microsoft homepage.  

After downloading the appropriate version of software from the Microsoft website, installation 
is completed when the iSCSI initiator process is started in the services setup. This can be done 
automatically or manually depending on your preferred start up process 

Please consult your system administrator for further information.   

For  computers  running  other  Operating  Systems  there  are  several  iSCSI  initiator  software 
packets available, both commercial and free as well closed and open source.
