BakStor Installation and Administration Manual
6.4 iSCSI Configuration
6.4.1 Starting / Restarting the iSCSI Service
Choose Configuration ? iSCSI configuration ? Start/Restart iSCSI Service
The iSCSI service is the service running on the BakStor that is responsible for exporting the
defined slices. The service is automatically started when the BakStor starts, this menu options
allows the service to be manually started / restarted at a later point should this be needed.
6.4.2 Stopping the iSCSI Service
Choose Configuration ? iSCSI configuration ? Stop iSCSI Service
This option allows for a stop of the iSCSI service without shutting the BakStor down. iSCSI
service is stopped the slices can no longer be accessed from an iSCSI initiator, but the
webinterface is still accessable
6.4.3 Configuring iSCSI iSNS server
Choose Configuration ? iSCSI configuration ? Set iSCSI iSNS server
This options allows for the configuration of an iSNS nameserver. The IP address of the iSNS
server needs to be entered.
An iSNS server is an optional component for a larger iSCSI setup. It is an independent daemon
running on a server connected to the LAN. This daemon allows iSCSI targets and iSCSI
initiators to register with it and thus providing a single point to inquary for information
regarding iSCSI devices.
Using such a daemon simplyfies the configuration of iSCSI initiators in a setup with multiple
iSCSI targets since the iSCSI initiator only has to be configured to inquary the iSNS instead of
being configured with the IP address of every iSCSI target
