Non soft-key FlexSet phones (120, 120L, 120D, 280, 280D, 280D-Z) can be manually
tested by causing them to enter a special initialization mode. The phone will initialize
through Phase 2 and then stop. At this point various functions can be tested manually.

1. FlexSet 40B modules

cannot

be tested manually, they may however be

present without affecting the test described below.

2. The FlexSet telephone will not be able to make or receive calls during the
manual test.

3. Soft-key telephones (120S, 121S, 280S, 281S, 80S, 80P) can be manually
tested when initialized while connected to an external power supply (TPS)
and disconnected from the LINE.

The procedures are the same for telephones with an LCD display and for those
without the display. The only difference is the presence (or absence) of the display. In
order to carry out the procedure:

1.

Remove the telephone line cord and the TPS (if attached). Press and hold down
the asterisk (*) and pound (#) dial pad keys simultaneously while replacing the
cord.

If using TPS, replace the TPS only and the telephone will start up in Manual
Test mode.

Keep both keys pressed. An exclamation mark or asterisk will appear on the
telephone display for several seconds. The LED on Fixed System Key F4 (the
upper one of the four) will light. One of the following sets of Fixed System Key
LEDs will light up as shown below:

Where F1 is Fixed System Key #1, F2 is Fixed System Key #2, etc.

After reaching Phase 2 - the following message will appear on the telephone
display:
