Chapter 5  Maintaining the TimeHub 5500
Upgrading the Software

Upgrading the TimeHub NTP Firmware

Use this procedure to upgrade the firmware in the NTP Server card from Release 
2.0.6 to 2.0.x. Do not use this procedure to upgrade the firmware from Release 1.x.x 
to any later version.

Required Equipment

A computer with FTP/SFTP support and a LAN connection. This computer is 
used as an FTP server. 

A computer with ProComm Plus, HyperTerminal, or other communications 
software

CD with TimeHub NTP Release 2.0.x firmware image

Load the firmware image file 

thntp-2.x.x-1.x86_586.rpm

 onto the FTP server.

Procedure

1. Ensure that the Management port of the rear NTP Connector module is 

connected and configured to a LAN. See 

Making Communication Connections

, 

on page 122 for details.

2. Connect to the TimeHub using the procedure in 

Using Terminal Emulation 

Software

, on page 150.

3. Issue the 

RTRV-NETYPE-ALL:::ctag;

 TL1 command to check the version 

information and hardware setup of the NTP cards to be upgraded.

4. Issue the following TL1 command to start the firmware download process on the 

Standby NTP Server card:

LOAD-PROGRAM::Sa-OUTnb:<ctag>::"<filename>","<ftp-server>", 

"<user>","<password>";

for example:

LOAD-PROGRAM::S0-OUT4B:user1::"thntp-2.0.6p-1.x86_586.rpm","

ftp/192,168.5.11","user","password";

where:

 is the <aid> of the standby NTP card to be upgraded

 is the <ctag>

 is the absolute path and file name of 

the image file on the FTP server

 is the Ethernet address of the FTP server

–

"user"

 is the user name for the FTP server

–

"password" 

is the user’s password for the FTP server
