Spectrum24 Setup
Introduction
The Symbol Spectrum24 Wireless LAN allows SPT 1740 terminals on the same network to
communicate wirelessly, and to send captured data “real time” to the host device. The SPT
1740 has an internal omnidirectional antenna and an integrated PCMCIA radio card. Before
the SPT 1740 terminal can be used on the Spectrum24 wireless network, your facility must
be set up with the equipment required to run the Spectrum24 wireless LAN and the terminal
must be properly configured. Refer to the documentation which came with your access points
for instructions on setting up the required Spectrum24 hardware. Terminal configuration is
done through the Network Preferences application.
Configuring the Spectrum24 Network Connection
(SPT 1740 Only)
Before the SPT 1740 terminal can be used, the Spectrum24 LAN access points and host
connections must be properly set up by your site administrator. Next, each terminal to be
used must be properly configured with the correct ESS ID and IP information.
All Spectrum24 identification and address information is entered through the Preferences
application on the SPT 1740 terminal.
To configure your SPT 1740 terminal for use on a Spectrum24 network:
1. On the Main Application screen, tap the
Icon.
2. Tap on the top right side of the screen to display the pick-list of preference options.
ESS ID
The ESS ID identifies the radio network and is used to
differentiate between different radio networks. All SPT
1740 terminals on the same network must be set up with
the same ESS ID Code. The ESS ID on the terminal is the
same as that of the access points in your facility.
IP Address
Each SPT 1740 terminal requires a unique internet address
(IP address), allowing the messages it sends and receives to
be correctly routed over networks conforming to the TCP/
IP protocol standards. This address can be administered
and entered manually through the preferences application
on the terminal, or administered and allocated by a server
on the network, using DHCP.
