the flash EPROM
Both the application program and the radio fre-
quency (RF) instructions for your PTC-960XRF
are stored in electronic components inside the
PTC called flash EPROMs. Flash EPROMs are
a type of read-only memory, but unlike standard
EPROMs, flash EPROMs can be erased and re-
programmed while they are inside the PTC. This
allows you to update your application program
quickly and easily.
To write over existing programs on the PTC’s
application or RF flash EPROM, you must
connect your PTC to an MS-DOS-based personal
computer and then run the FLASHPC.EXE
utility to download the special file (ROM image
file) containing the new application.

Before you begin
Make sure the PTC’s battery pack is fully
charged. If the battery pack runs low, the repro-
gramming process will abort, and you will lose
the application program or RF instructions
already in the PTC.
