Display
The display screen on the front of the PTC above
the keyboard shows the information you type
or scan into the PTC as well as messages and
instructions from the PTC or the host computer.
The screen is a liquid crystal display (LCD).
Depending on the option ordered, the screen can
show four lines with sixteen characters each or
sixteen lines with sixteen or twenty-one charac-
ters each. Your display may also be able to dis-
play graphics.
The display’s contrast can be changed through
the PTC-960XRF’s keyboard if your application
program has been set up to do so.

End cap/battery pack assembly
The PTC handle end cap and the nickel-cad-
mium battery pack are combined in a single
module. Removing the end cap also removes the
battery pack. When the battery pack is replaced,
the entire module is replaced with a new one.

Flash EPROM
A flash EPROM is an electronic component that
is installed inside the PTC. The PTC-960XRF
has two. One contains the PTC’s data collection
program and determines the PTC’s key func-
tions, the display prompts and messages, and
how and when the PTC prints or transmits data.
The second flash EPROM contains the PTC’s
DATASPAN radio frequency memory.
These flash EPROMs can be erased and repro-
grammed while they are inside the PTC. First,
the PTC must be connected to a host computer
