Cluster Status
The Cluster Status window lets you monitor a cluster of security gateways. The display shows the
following:
■
Whether each cluster member is up and running
■
IP address and Virtual IP Address (VIP) of each cluster member
■
Relative load of traffic on each cluster member
■
Configuration revision number for each cluster member
Associated tasks
The task that you can perform with this window is:

Cluster Members window
In the Cluster Members window, you can modify settings for hot standby, load balancing, and weight.
Global cluster settings affect all cluster members. While an individual setting, such as weight, might
apply to an individual cluster member, that value affects all cluster members.
Before changing the global cluster configuration you should be aware of the result of using hot standby
mode compared to the result of using load balancing.
If potential overload is anticipated, you should enable load balancing rather than hot standby mode. If
load balancing is enabled, the load will be shared between the configured cluster members. If hot
standby is enabled, when the active node fails because of overload, the passive node that is configured
for failover will also fail because it will get the whole overload.

Field
Description
Hot standby
Puts this cluster in hot standby mode.
This option is unchecked by default.
In hot standby mode, only one cluster member is active. The other members are in standby
mode for fail-over purposes. If the active member fails, the member in hot standby mode
becomes active.
Load balancing
Algorithm
Allows one of the load-balancing algorithms.
Select a load-balancing algorithm:
■
Round Robin
Cluster members are used alternately.
■
Least Load
The cluster member with the lowest traffic load is selected to receive new traffic.
■
Random
Cluster members are chosen arbitrarily.
The default value is Round Robin.
