Policy field descriptions
Content Filtering—Advanced Restrictions tab
The Advanced Restrictions tab contains content filtering settings that apply to all content filtering. It
lets you specify which URLs, MIME types, and file extensions should be allowed or denied. It also lets
you define subject line patterns that you want to block.

Field
Description
URLs
Lists URLs that are controlled by the content filtering feature.
You select one of the following actions for the security gateway to take with regard to
these URLs:
■
Allow
Permits users to access only the URL addresses in the list.
■
Deny
Permits users to access any URL address except those in the list.
Deny URLs that contain
the following patterns
Lists URL patterns that are used to restrict access to sites.
URL patterns must use regular expression syntax.
The following URL patterns are defined by default:
■
\.\./
This represents the parent directory.
■
~/
This represents the home directory.
MIME Types
Lists MIME types that are controlled by the content filtering feature.
Use the Available and Selected lists, as follows:

The Available list displays MIME types that have been defined for use with content
filtering.
You can modify the Available list by adding or deleting MIME types.
■
The Selected list is populated by moving MIME types from the Available list.
When you apply MIME type restrictions to a rule, the security gateway allows or
denies the MIME types in this list.
Select one of the following actions for the security gateway to take with regard to these
MIME types:

Allow
Permits users to download only the MIME types in the Selected list.
■
Deny
Permits users to download all MIME types except those in the Selected list.
