Subject patterns identified as spam dialog box
The security gateway lets you identify spam email based on the content in the subject line. When the
content of an email message subject line matches the pattern that you specify, the security gateway
handles the email based on the settings that you configure.

IDS/IPS—Policies tab
IDS/IPS policies manage how administrators apply signature settings to the various components on
the security gateway. Each IDS/IPS policy contains a set of signatures that the security gateway
searches for, and log and block settings for the entire set of intrusion events on the gateway. To enable
the intrusion detection and prevention functionality, you must select a pre-configured IDS/IPS policy
or one that you have created, and apply the policy to a security gateway component.
On the Policies tab, you can view, create, modify, and delete IDS/IPS policies.
IDS/IPS Policy Properties dialog box—General tab
Use the IDS/IPS Policy Properties dialog box to create a new IDS/IPS policy, change the heuristic
detection level that is enforced by an existing policy, and add a brief caption describing the policy.

Table D-82
Antispam Configuration tab—Subject patterns identified as spam dialog box
Field
Description
Subject pattern
You can use the * and ? wildcard characters. The * wildcard character matches 0 or more of
any character. The ? wildcard character blocks any 1 (exactly 1) character. (Using the ?
wildcard character to match a high ASCII and double-byte character does not result in a
block.)
For example, *hot* would identify any subject line that contains those three letters
consecutively in the line as spam. (For example, any line that contains the word shotgun
would be identified as spam.) The wildcard string ?hot? would identify the subject line shots
as spam, but not hot, hots, or a line that contains any of those words.
Create one entry at a time. The maximum line length is 200 characters. You can specify up to
500 entries.
Subject-line blocking is case-sensitive.
